EducationFour Green school educators received grants totaling almost $7,700 to help enhance student learning. Mary Ann Stahr of the high school, Kathy Lieb of the middle school and Lorri Kingan of the intermediate school received a $4,662 federal Library Services and Technology Act grant to participate in the Choose to Read Ohio initiative. Paula Jameson, the district’s curriculum and technology resource teacher, received a $3,000 Classroom Improvement Technologies grant from Assessment Technologies of Wickliffe. Jane Lockshin, daughter of Mary Jo Lockshin and David Lockshin of Canton, is a new member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, an interdisciplinary honors organization for first- and second-year students. She is a student at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Lee Gill, associate vice president and chief diversity officer at the University of Akron, was elected president of the Ohio Diversity Officers’ Collaboration, the key organization for diversity officer and multicultural specialists at Ohio colleges and universities. .Dr. Alex Thomas Mellion of Akron received the Student Leadership Award from the nonprofit Delta Dental Foundation. Mellion is a 2011 graduate of Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine and is pursuing a graduate orthodontic program at St. Louis University in St. Louis, Mo.MilitaryAir Force Reserve Airman 1st Class Dustin O. Moneypenny graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. He is the son of Kathy Sandy of Akron. He graduated from Springfield High in 2010. Air Force Reserve Airman Scott A. Green, son of Darin Green and Tamela Anderson, both of Copley, graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. He is a 2008 graduate of Copley High School. Air Force Airman Keith E. McQuain, son of Keith and Janene McQuain of Akron, graduated from Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. He is a 2008 graduate of Ellet High School in Akron. Bradley Coler, son of Patty Coler of Akron, was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Marines after graduating from Ohio State University this summer.
