Police in Lawrence County are investigating the death of a 2-month-old baby.

Officials said 911 dispatchers in New Wilmington received a call around 3 a.m. Friday about an unconscious baby.

EMS crews unsuccessfully tried to resuscitate the baby at the scene. The baby, whose name has not been released, was rushed to Jameson Hospital in New Castle and pronounced dead a short time later.

The coroner said the death does not appear suspicious, but more information will be available once an autopsy is completed.
